How to beat Yellow Wind Sage in Black Myth: Wukong?
Pre-Battle Preparation
- Level Up: Before taking on the Yellow Wind Sage, it’s highly recommended to complete all other bosses in Chapter 2 first. This will allow you to level up, gather upgrade materials, and strengthen your character.
- Upgrade Weapons and Armor: Make sure you’ve crafted and equipped all available weapon and armor upgrades. Visit Shen Money to upgrade your gourd if you’ve obtained any relevant materials.
- Prepare Medicines: At the Cellar shrine, talk to Xu Dog and exchange your Mind Cores for Celestial Medicines, focusing on those that increase your defense. Purchase the medicine recipe from him and craft three key medicines: Longevity Decoction, Evil Repelling Medicament, and Tiger Subduing Pellets. These will boost your health, defense, and attack.
- Consume Medicines Before the Fight: Just before entering the boss fight, consume all three medicines to maximize your stats.
Battle Strategy: Phase 1
- Start with Dodging: As the fight begins, the Yellow Wind Sage will launch into an attack combo. Dodge his initial strikes to avoid taking damage.
- Use Immobilize and A Pluck of Many: Once you’ve dodged his opening attacks, use the Immobilize spell to freeze the boss in place. Follow up with A Pluck of Many and quick-attack combos. With your clones assisting, you’ll deal substantial damage and should be able to take off 30-40% of his health.
- Stay Close to the Boss: It’s crucial to remain close to the Yellow Wind Sage throughout the fight. At close range, you can dodge sideways and get behind him, reducing the effectiveness of his attacks. Avoid staying at a distance, as this will trigger his powerful ranged attacks, which are difficult to evade.
- Utilize Sturdy Skill: If you have the Foundation Martial Arts skill “Sturdy,” it will help reduce damage on the final hit of a quick-attack combo. This will be especially useful when you’re engaged in close combat.
- Prepare for Phase 2: Continue dodging and landing quick-attack combos until the boss’s health drops to 50%, triggering the second phase.
Battle Strategy: Phase 2
- Dodge the Falling Rock: At the start of Phase 2, the Yellow Wind Sage will summon a massive rock that falls toward you. Dodge sideways to avoid it, or better yet, activate your Transformation spell and dodge while transformed. Any damage taken during the transformation will reset once you revert to your regular form, minimizing the risk.
- Adapt to New Attack Patterns: The Yellow Wind Sage’s moveset changes significantly in the second phase. He will perform repeated jumping attacks, turning translucent and leaping across the arena. Dodge when he comes toward you to avoid these powerful strikes.
- Avoid Tornados: The boss can now cast tornados that lift you into the air if you walk into them. Stay alert and steer clear of these hazards.
- Focus on Quick Attacks: During Phase 2, quick attacks remain your best option. Heavy attacks are too slow and will leave you vulnerable to the boss’s faster and more aggressive moves.
- Use Immobilize Once More: If you have enough mana left, cast Immobilize again to gain a brief advantage and land additional quick-attack combos.
- Use Spirit Attack: Don’t forget to use your Spirit Attack with :l2: + :r2: (recommended Spirit: Wandering Wight). The Wandering Wight provides a +20 defense boost and its headbutt attack deals decent damage, making it a valuable asset in this fight.
- Heal Strategically: If you managed to conserve your healing charges during the first phase, use them wisely in the second phase. Healing frequently will be necessary as the boss’s attacks become more relentless.
