As a long-time fan of Sucker Punch, my favorite Sony studio, I couldn’t be more excited about Ghost of Tsushima coming to Next-Gen consoles in the form of the Director’s Cut. With the inclusion of online mode and additional content, this version truly feels like the definitive experience. Aesthetically, the game is stunning, taking full advantage of the PS5’s technical capabilities. The reduced loading times make exploring the island of Tsushima an absolute joy. Fast travel is nearly instantaneous, allowing you to seamlessly traverse the breathtaking landscapes that the game has to offer.
What really stands out is the sense of freedom you feel while roaming the plains of Tsushima. The open-world design genuinely captures the essence of riding through vast, open spaces, creating an experience that, in some ways, surpasses what other games like RDR2 tried to achieve a few years back. Sucker Punch has cleverly integrated the HUD into the gameplay, using elements like the guiding wind to direct you, which not only looks great but also enhances the overall immersion. By minimizing the traditional HUD, the game draws you in even further, making the experience that much more engaging.
When it comes to gameplay, anyone familiar with Sucker Punch’s previous titles, like inFamous, will find a bit of that DNA in Ghost of Tsushima. Of course, given the type of game and its narrative, there are also elements that remind me of Assassin’s Creed—particularly in the spirit of exploration and combat. Speaking of combat, the fight sequences are thrilling and dynamic, though they can occasionally feel a bit chaotic.
