  1. Graphics: 10/20
Visually, Duke Nukem Forever might not be stuck 15 years in the past, but it’s at least a solid six years behind. The visuals aren’t outright ugly, but they’re far from impressive, and the level separation on PC is a massive joke. Fortunately, unlike the console versions, the game runs smoothly and doesn’t burden players with long loading times.

    Gameplay: 11/20
Some might tolerate Duke’s slightly clunky controls and the occasionally questionable borrowings from modern FPS titles. However, the disastrous level design is unforgivable for a game that claims to be the successor to Duke Nukem 3D.

    Lifespan: 14/20
The single-player campaign will keep you busy for about a dozen hours on normal difficulty, which isn’t bad by today’s standards. However, the multiplayer is quickly exhausted, feeling both classic and outdated—something only die-hard fans of the series will truly appreciate.

    Sound: 15/20
The soundtrack, with some themes revisiting those from Duke Nukem 3D (like Grabbag, Stalker…), effectively underscores the action. The sound effects may be a bit subdued, but this is to let you enjoy Duke’s new one-liners, which are sure to become cult classics.

    Story:/
We’ll kindly refrain from rating this category, though we do appreciate the irreverent spirit of the series and the ever-present humor.

    Final Verdict:
Duke Nukem Forever is a mediocre FPS and a bitter disappointment for those who have waited 15 years for this sequel. While Gearbox has nailed the fan service by capturing the essence of the series, that’s about all there is to it. The gameplay feels clumsy, poorly paced, and suffers from a catastrophic level design. It fails to deliver the fun of its predecessor, whether in single-player or multiplayer mode. FPS enthusiasts should steer clear. If you’re a die-hard Duke fan, add 2 or 3 points to the score, but don’t expect miracles.
