Atlas Fallen, produced by Deck13, known for their well-received The Surge series, didn’t quite hit the mark when it was first released last year. Despite offering enjoyable gameplay and a well-tuned system, the game was marred by numerous issues that detracted from the overall experience. Now, the game is back with a definitive version titled Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand. This major update includes new elements and a reworked narrative. The big question is: does this new version make Atlas Fallen a more compelling and exciting experience?
Atlas Fallen had a solid foundation, but it faced heavy criticism due to various flaws that negatively impacted its gameplay and progression system. Issues like imprecise combat mechanics and unreliable enemy targeting, along with a repetitive main quest and an underwhelming bestiary, left players frustrated. The armor sets, while plentiful and upgradeable with collected essence, were sadly underutilized.
Moreover, the game’s open maps, though offering thrilling exploration, lacked substantial activities, offering only dispensable side quests and underwhelming secondary content. However, that was before the Reign of Sand update, which brings substantial new content and addresses some of these critical issues.
